Companies selling HID lights claim that LED lights cannot become main grow light provider for indoor garden. Pros of LED grow lights-

Cons of LED grow lights-

Longer shelf life: LED lights are much long lasting than the conventional plants grow lights. Generally, LED lights last for more than fifty thousand hours suitable for indoor hydroponic gardening. On an average, LED lights work 2 ½ times more as traditional HID units.

Emits less heat: LED lights emit less amount of heat that of HID grow lights. HID lights create extra heat that causes danger to garden and homes if not monitored properly. In order to produce light, HID requires heat. They work on filaments which become hot and start to glow as soon as electricity passes through it. On the contrary, LED grow lamp does not require a filament to produce light and hence less heat is emitted.

Consume less energy: As LED lamp produces light in diverse manner, it consumes less energy. The LED only generates light needed for the growth of plant and does not generates light spectrum that plant does not require. For instance, plants do not require green light and hence lights spectrum can be changed to produce lights beneficial for plants to grow, produce fruit and flower. Whereas, light spectrum cannot be adjusted in traditional lights, hence majority of lights produced are wasted and inefficient. You do not require a ballast to keep the lights active. A normal power cord will work wonders. This makes it simpler and convenient to use.

The advantages of LED lights are one of the strong reasons for this technology growing and hence it becomes more natural and easy on how to use them. At present, it’s a developing technology and to get optimum results, research and experimentation is still need to be made.
